Volkswagen to launch ID. Aura L5 electric sedan in China by 2027

Volkswagen, in collaboration with FAW, is preparing to launch the ID. Aura L5, an all-electric mid-size sedan specifically developed for the Chinese market. Expected to debut in 2027, the vehicle is built on the Compact Main Platform (CMP), an architecture designed to facilitate efficient electric vehicle production with local partners.

The ID. Aura L5 features a fastback silhouette with dimensions measuring approximately 4.88 meters in length, 1.88 meters in width, and 1.51 meters in height, with a wheelbase of 2.82 meters. Notable design elements include frameless side windows, flush door handles, and an electric tailgate that opens up to 70 degrees to provide a wide loading area.

Performance options are expected to include a rear-wheel-drive version with 155 kW (211 PS) and an all-wheel-drive variant producing 310 kW (422 PS). Some configurations may also include lidar sensors for advanced driver assistance. This model is part of Volkswagen’s broader strategy to introduce over 30 new models in China by the end of 2027, 20 of which will be new energy vehicles.
