Volkswagen expands electric vehicle lineup with new camper and SUV projects

Volkswagen is advancing several strategic product lines across different global markets. In Europe, the company is set to unveil the ID. California Cruise at the Caravan Salon in Düsseldorf. This electric camper, based on the ID. Buzz, is the first in a planned family of electric campervans expected to roll out through 2028. To address weight and space concerns, Volkswagen has collaborated with Stuff Bubble to develop inflatable camping modules, such as kitchens and beds, which can be installed or removed quickly.

In India, Volkswagen has received global approval for a new sub-4-meter compact SUV project. This initiative, estimated to cost approximately ₹275 crore (€25 million), will utilize the MQB-A0-IN platform shared with the Skoda Kylaq. The model is expected to launch around mid-2027, aiming to compete in the highly contested subcompact segment against rivals like the Tata Nexon and Maruti Suzuki Brezza.

Additionally, the company is expanding its electric SUV offerings in Spain with the ID. Cross. Positioned as an entry-level model below the ID. 4, the ID. Cross is available with battery capacities of 37 kWh and 52 kWh, offering a maximum range of up to 426 kilometers. The vehicle is built on the MEB+ platform and features three different power output levels.
