Volkswagen utilizes sheep for solar farm maintenance in Poland

Volkswagen has implemented an agrovoltaic project at its plant in Poznan, Poland, to manage the grounds of its solar power facility. The company introduced a flock of 100 sheep to graze among its 31,000 solar panels.

This initiative serves as a sustainable alternative to mechanical lawnmowers, helping to maintain the grass surfaces while reducing maintenance costs. According to Marzena Pillich-Gronska, director of Volkswagen Poznan, the project demonstrates how modern industry can operate in harmony with nature.

Beyond cost savings, the grazing sheep contribute to increased biodiversity and improved soil quality. The solar plant is capable of producing enough electricity on sunny days to cover the entire plant's current energy needs.
