Volkswagen's Jetta brand unveils M6 electric sedan for Chinese market

FAW‑Volkswagen's Jetta brand previewed the Jetta M6, its first all‑electric sedan aimed at China’s entry‑level NEV segment. The model, shown in an "Oriental Purple" finish, measures 4.8 m long, 1.86 m wide and 1.5 m high with a 2.82 m wheelbase. Two lower‑powered versions deliver 113 kW and a top speed of 166 km/h, while two higher‑powered variants produce 145 kW and reach 172 km/h. Jetta plans to launch five new models by 2028, including four NEVs, targeting a price around 100,000 yuan (≈ $14,700) and an annual output of 400‑500 k units.

The launch coincides with a marketing partnership with domestic tea‑drink chain ChaPanda, signalling a focus on younger Chinese consumers. The M6 follows VW’s broader shift in China after local competitors such as BYD and Geely have overtaken German brands in EV sales, prompting the automaker to expand its electric offering through the Jetta brand, which previously sold over 30,000 units in its first three months.
