Volleyball: Damaske defends comments on Turkey match

The European Volleyball Championship group stages have commenced with notable results. In Group C, Finland secured a 3:0 victory over Denmark, led by Joonas Jokela. In Group D, Turkey defeated Germany 3:1 in a competitive match.

Following the tournament, Polish player Paulina Damaske addressed controversial comments regarding the Turkish team's performance during a group match against Poland. Damaske, who previously suggested the opponent might have been ‘throwing’ the match to influence tournament seeding, stood by her observations. She noted that the behavior of the Turkish team during the tie-break felt unusual to those familiar with high-level volleyball, though she emphasized that the victory was valuable for Poland's ranking.
