Volleyball Pre-Olympic Tournament begins in Dominican Republic

The Volleyball Pre-Olympic Tournament, which offers a qualifying spot for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games, is set to begin at the Ricardo Gioriber Arias Volleyball Palace. The competition features four teams: Canada, Puerto Rico, Cuba, and the Dominican Republic.

Canada enters the tournament as the favorite following an undefeated run in the recent NORCECA Continental Championship under coach Giovanni Guidetti. The opening match will see Canada face Puerto Rico.

In the final scheduled match of the opening day, the host nation, the Dominican Republic, will face Cuba. Cuba, coached by Luizomar De Moura, recently secured a bronze medal in the continental championship, marking their first podium finish since 2011.
