Volos and Panserraikos appeal match-fixing penalties
The appeals process regarding allegations of match manipulation during the 2024-25 Super League playouts between PAE Volos and PAE Panserraikos has concluded. The case originated from claims made by Daniel Søndergaard, which he subsequently retracted.
The Hellenic Football Federation (EPO) Ethics Committee had previously imposed penalties consisting of a three-point deduction for Volos and a four-point deduction for Panserraikos. Both clubs appealed these decisions, seeking to overturn the sanctions.
During the hearing, legal representatives for Panserraikos argued that the investigation relied heavily on Søndergaard’s statements, which were made months after the matches and later withdrawn. They noted that investigations by the National Platform for Sports Integrity (EPAL) found no connection between the betting activity identified and the clubs or their officials. Achilleas Beos, manager of Volos, also addressed the hearing, emphasizing the importance of the club's reputation and integrity.
