Volos Court acquits elderly man in domestic dispute case

An elderly man was acquitted by the Volos Misdemeanor Court following a legal dispute with his former son-in-law. The case originated from an incident on August 16, when the complainant alleged that the elderly man insulted, threatened, and slapped him outside an apartment building in Volos.

The complainant, a father of two who has been separated from his wife since 2019, stated that he went to the residence to pick up his daughter according to a court-ordered visitation schedule. He claimed the confrontation escalated when the former father-in-law appeared in an agitated state and struck him before police arrived.

While the defendant was initially considered guilty of domestic physical harm, the court reclassified the charge to simple physical harm. Because simple physical harm requires a formal complaint and the necessary bail had not been paid, the criminal prosecution was declared inadmissible, resulting in the man's acquittal. The defendant's former daughter-in-law denied that her father had physically assaulted the complainant.
