Volos court hears fraud case involving disabled man

A 26-year-old man from Lamia appeared before the Volos Three-Member Misdemeanor Court regarding allegations of telephone fraud involving bank card details. The case, which stems from incidents in 2023, involves fraudulent activities reported in Katérini, Corinth, and Volos.

The defense argues that the defendant, who has a certified 67% disability and suffers from speech impairments, was manipulated by an unknown man. According to his lawyer, Georgios Georgiadis, the individual was approached outside a bank and offered 400 euros in exchange for his bank account number, card, and PIN. The defense contends that the unknown individual used these details to carry out scams, including a specific instance in Volos where a woman was allegedly persuaded to pay 2,500 euros.

The defense maintains that the defendant's speech difficulties make it unlikely he could have conducted the fraudulent calls himself. The trial was adjourned due to court hours and is scheduled to resume on March 5, 2027.
