Volos court sentences couple for false accusations against police

A 62-year-old man and his 56-year-old fiancée have been sentenced by the Volos Three-Member Misdemeanor Court to eight months of imprisonment, suspended, for making false accusations and false testimony against police officers.

The incident originated from a traffic stop in February 2022 in Volos, during which the woman was found driving an uninsured vehicle without license plates and without a driver's license. Following the issuance of traffic fines, the couple confronted the commander of the Volos Traffic Department and another officer at their offices, resulting in verbal abuse and disruption of service.

In retaliation, the couple filed complaints against the officers, alleging verbal abuse. However, prosecutors dismissed these claims as false, leading to the criminal prosecution of the couple for false accusation and false testimony.
