Volos court sentences man for 3,500 euro business theft

A 44-year-old man has been sentenced by the Volos Misdemeanor Court for stealing 3,500 euros from a fruit and vegetable business. The theft occurred between the afternoon of August 23 and the early morning of August 24, after the perpetrator entered the premises by breaking a window.

Police identified the suspect using security camera footage and arrested him on the night of August 24. During the investigation, the stolen money was not recovered; the defendant claimed he had distributed the funds to individuals in a Roma camp in the Neapoli area. The suspect, who admitted to the crime and cited drug addiction as a factor, did not appear for the trial and was judged in absentia.

The court found him guilty and imposed an 18-month prison sentence. He is required to serve six months immediately, with the remaining 12 months suspended for three years. An arrest warrant has been issued to ensure he serves the mandatory portion of his sentence.
