Volos court sentences woman for 30,000 euro IRIS payment fraud
A 31-year-old woman has been sentenced by the Volos Three-Member Misdemeanor Court for high-value computer fraud and money laundering. The incident occurred in November 2025, targeting a 55-year-old workshop owner in Volos.
The perpetrator contacted the victim via telephone, claiming she could resolve technical issues he was experiencing with the IRIS electronic payment service. She sent a fraudulent hyperlink which, once clicked, allowed her to access his account and attempt to steal 30,000 euros.
The victim realized the fraud and contacted his bank, which successfully froze 29,000 euros of the total amount. The victim ultimately lost 1,000 euros. The court sentenced the woman to two years and six months of imprisonment without suspension, along with a fine of 1,150 euros. The court also ordered the immediate return of the 1,000 euros to the victim. The defendant was absent from the court proceedings.
