Volos court to hear child abuse case involving cigarette burns

Three individuals are scheduled to appear before the Volos Mixed Court of Appeals on October 19 regarding a child abuse case that occurred in Larissa. The defendants include a 32-year-old mother, her former husband, and a 50-year-old acquaintance.

The case came to light in May 2025 when the mother sought medical attention for a child's respiratory issues at Larissa General Hospital. During the examination, doctors discovered burns on a 6-year-old girl and a 5-year-old boy, which were suspected to have been caused by cigarette burns.

The indictment alleges that the mother caused burns to the children using lit cigarettes and committed acts that violated the children's dignity, including marking their bodies with dark markers. The mother and her former husband face charges of domestic physical injury to minors, while the 50-year-old man is charged with physical injury to a minor. The prosecution notes that the alleged actions, occurring between 2024 and May 2025, were capable of causing intense physical and psychological pain.
