Volos launches 1 million euro flood protection project
Cleaning operations are underway for the Krausidis river and other streams within the Volos municipality as part of a new 1 million euro flood protection project. The initiative aims to maximize the drainage capacity of these torrents before the winter season begins.
Magnesia Vice Regional Governor Anna-Maria Papadimitriou, accompanied by officials from the Technical Works Directorate, inspected the progress of the works on September 4. The inspection focused on the execution level of the interventions and the current state of the Krausidis riverbed.
The project involves removing debris, waste, and vegetation from the riverbeds to prevent the formation of local dams during heavy rainfall, which could otherwise lead to overflows. The funding for this preventive measure was provided by the relevant ministry following a decision by the Government Committee for State Aid.
