Volos man sentenced to prison for threatening minor with flammable liquid

A 43-year-old man, known locally by the pseudonym ‘Camel’, has been sentenced to two years in prison by the Volos Misdemeanor Court for threatening a minor with a flammable liquid. The incident occurred on Tuesday, October 6, at a bus stop in Volos, where the man allegedly attempted to throw the contents of a plastic bottle containing a potentially flammable substance at a high school student.

The victim’s father testified that the student was wearing headphones to avoid interaction when the man approached and shook the bottle toward her, causing her to flee in fear. While the defendant denied the attempt, claiming he was merely sitting on a bench because he felt unwell, the court imposed a sentence of six months in prison with the remainder suspended. His appeal will not have suspensive effect.

This arrest follows a history of similar incidents involving the same individual, who has previously been arrested and treated by psychiatric services for similar behavior involving flammable materials. The recurrence of these events has raised local questions regarding the effectiveness of monitoring and the protection of women and minors.
