Volos school fire safety concerns raised
Significant fire safety deficiencies have been identified at the 14th Primary School in Volos, Greece, following an inspection by the Fire Service. The inspection was prompted by a request from the school's Parents' Association.
Findings include unmaintained portable fire extinguishers, a non-functional fire detection system in the computer room, and a lack of extinguishers in the boiler room. Additionally, officials noted the need to re-evaluate the use of certain spaces and recalculate the adequacy of evacuation routes to ensure they meet safety requirements for the number of students.
Municipal Councilor Kostas Gargalas of the People's Rally has formally called for accountability from the local administration. He is seeking answers regarding the status of fire protection systems across all school complexes in Volos, particularly noting that many buildings utilize natural gas for heating.
