Volos students granted free bus transport following protests

Students from the 4th Gymnasium of Nea Ionia and the 10th Gymnasium of Volos will receive free transportation via Astiko KTEL Volos buses starting Tuesday, September 29. This decision follows a period of intense protests and mobilizations by parents and students who demanded a solution to the lack of free transport at the start of the school year.

The issue was driven by safety concerns regarding the routes students had to walk, specifically Diminiou Street, which lacks sidewalks and has heavy vehicle traffic. While legislation uses a 2,500-meter distance as the threshold for mandatory free transport, local authorities determined that the specific routes for these schools significantly exceeded this limit, necessitating the provision of bus services via Special Student Passes (EMD).
