Volos taxi driver assaulted with a mop handle

A taxi driver in Volos was violently assaulted on Friday morning at the taxi stand near the Taxiarches cemetery in Nea Ionia. The incident occurred after the 52-year-old driver refused to transport a father and son, whom he identified as individuals known for refusing to pay for trips.

During the confrontation, the son reportedly grabbed a nearby mop handle and struck the driver's wrist, causing an injury. The driver stated that the assailant attempted to strike him in the abdomen with the pointed end of the handle. Following the attack, the suspects fled the scene after allegedly threatening the driver against filing a police report.

The president of the Taxi Owners Association of Volos, 'Agios Christoforos', accompanied the injured driver to the Police Directorate to file a formal complaint. Local taxi drivers are expected to hold a gathering at the police station in response to the incident.
