Volos: Two siblings released after jewelry theft accusations

Two Roma siblings have been released without restrictive conditions following their appearance before an investigator in Volos. The pair is accused of multiple thefts targeting elderly women in Volos and the Rhafa Feraiou municipality.

The suspects allegedly used a method of feigned familiarity to approach victims. According to reports, the woman would approach unsuspecting pedestrians and embrace them, pretending to be an old acquaintance. During the embrace, her brother would seize gold chains and crosses from the victims' necks while they were caught by surprise. These incidents were reported to have occurred in November 2025 and January 2026.

The decision to release the suspects without conditions was influenced by their decision to compensate the victims during the pre-investigative stage, an act intended to demonstrate remorse. The case will proceed to either the Larissa Court of Appeals or the Volos Misdemeanor Court, depending on whether the charges are ultimately downgraded.
