Volos unveils mural dedicated to singer Giorgos Mazonakis
A new mural dedicated to the memory of singer Giorgos Mazonakis has been completed in the center of Volos, Greece. Located at the intersection of Ermou 89 and Sefel streets, the artwork combines Cretan folk aesthetics with modern street art.
The piece was designed by artist and poet Anna Emmanuel and executed by street artist Stratos Bobolos. The mural depicts Mazonakis through a Cretan lens, incorporating traditional elements such as a headscarf and red flowers. It also features the lyric “I belong to myself and to my dreams,” a line from one of his emblematic songs.
The artwork includes the years 1972 and 2026, marking the singer's lifespan. The mural serves as a public point of memory, integrating the artist's cultural heritage into the urban landscape of Volos.
