Volotea airline faces pre-insolvency, prompting consumer warnings

The consumer rights organization FACUA-Consumidores en Acción has advised customers against purchasing tickets from the airline Volotea. This recommendation follows the company's recent entry into a pre-insolvency process, which has created uncertainty regarding its economic and operational future.

FACUA warned that travelers face the risk of losing money invested in future flight reservations if the airline fails to navigate this phase and faces bankruptcy. While Volotea is legally required to refund passengers in the event of cancellations, the organization highlighted the potential for financial loss if services are not rendered.

Currently, Volotea continues its operations normally, and its pre-insolvency status has not resulted in any flight or route cancellations to date. In response to this situation, FACUA has called upon the Ministry of Social Rights, Consumer Affairs and 2030 Agenda to implement regulatory changes. The group proposes that companies providing consumer services be required to hold specific insurance to cover closure risks and guarantee refunds for unprovided goods or services.
