Volta a Portugal 2026 Stage Starts in Beja, Extending Route Through Alentejo

The 2026 edition of the Volta a Portugal em Bicicleta will begin its third stage on 8 August in the city of Beja. The start will launch a roughly 180‑kilometre route to Elvas, passing through the municipalities of Cuba, Vidigueira, Vila de Frades and other locales in the Baixo Alentejo region.

Beja’s mayor, Nuno Palma Ferro, said the race provides a major opportunity to promote the city and the wider Alentejo area, highlighting the event’s potential to boost tourism and the local economy. He noted that the municipality accepted the organizers’ challenge to host the stage, viewing the competition as a showcase for the region.

The race will also cross other Alentejo municipalities, including Reguengos de Monsaraz, further extending the event’s reach across southern Portugal.
