Volta Economic Forum targets investment execution and mining regulation
The 2026 Volta Economic Forum (VEF) is shifting its strategic focus from merely showcasing investment opportunities to the execution of tangible projects, jobs, and capital. Under the theme ‘From Opportunity Showcase to Investment Execution,’ the forum aims to connect bankable projects in the Volta Region with financial institutions and strategic partners.
Key sectors identified for development include agriculture, agro-processing, tourism, fisheries, energy, and infrastructure. Recent developments linked to previous forums include a 500-acre sisal farming project in Akatsi North, aquaculture in Keta, and interest in white clay for ceramics in Kpando.
Addressing the forum, Togbe Afede XIV, the Agbogbomefia of the Asogli State, pledged a zero-tolerance policy toward ‘galamsey’ (illegal small-scale mining). He noted that while geological explorations indicate rich mineral reserves in the region, any future mining must be strictly regulated and adhere to global green standards to prevent the environmental degradation and water pollution seen in other parts of Ghana.
