Volta Redonda unveils renovated Genezão football field and plans million‑real palace overhaul

The municipality of Volta Redonda delivered a fully revitalized Genezão football field in the Ponte Alta neighbourhood on 27 April. The refurbishment, carried out by the State Public Works Company (Emop‑RJ) and municipal agencies, included a new grass pitch, repaired fencing, renovated changing rooms, upgraded lighting and improved access to the stands. Funding came from a parliamentary amendment secured by Federal Deputy Dani Cunha following a request from local councilor Betinho Albertassi. The ceremony was attended by Mayor Antonio Francisco Neto, state deputy Munir Neto and other officials.

Separately, the city announced a R$ 1.9 million reform of the historic Palácio 17 de Julho, the municipal executive headquarters. The project, prepared by the Institute of Research and Urban Planning of Volta Redonda (IPPU), will be executed through three electronic bidding processes slated for early July, covering new aluminum windows and doors, façade restoration, painting, roof waterproofing, accessibility upgrades and bathroom renovations. The mayor has cited declining ICMS revenues as a fiscal challenge the municipality faces.
