Volta Region police arrest men over cannabis and illegal firearms

Police in Ghana's Volta Region have conducted separate operations resulting in the arrest of two men for narcotics-related offenses and illegal firearm possession.

In Kpando, 31-year-old Saviour Dzadze was taken into custody following allegations that he traded homegrown marijuana for an AK-47 assault rifle smuggled from Togo. During a search of his residence, officers recovered the AK-47, a pump-action shotgun, a locally manufactured single-barrel gun, ammunition, and quantities of suspected Indian hemp. The arrest followed a complaint regarding a death threat made at gunpoint.

In a separate incident in the Central Tongu District, police arrested 31-year-old Vincent Lotsu during a patrol along the Volta Lake. Officers discovered a fenced structure containing a plantation of suspected Indian hemp and 16 sacks of dried cannabis leaves. The suspect and seized materials have been transferred to the Kpando Police Divisional Investigation Department for forensic examination and further investigation.
