Volturno River drowning claims life of 17-year-old in Benevento

A 17-year-old boy of Egyptian origin has died after drowning in the Volturno River near Amorosi, in the province of Benevento. The teenager, who was a resident of a community for minors in San Marco Evangelista, Caserta, had gone to a picnic area to escape the intense heat.

According to preliminary reports, the youth dove into the water to cool off but was reportedly pulled under by strong currents and whirlpools. His friends, who were with him at the time, raised the alarm after he failed to resurface.

Emergency responders, including firefighters from Telese Terme and Benevento, Carabinieri, and medical personnel, arrived at the scene. Divers from Naples were deployed to search the river using specialized equipment. After several hours of searching, the boy's body was recovered from the water. The Prosecutor's Office of Benevento has opened an investigation to determine the exact circumstances of the death, including whether the incident was caused by river currents or a sudden medical emergency.
