Volunteer knitters in Uruguay and Argentina champion community craft projects

On 18 June 2026 the Intendencia of Florida, Uruguay, marked the 11th anniversary of the "Tejiendo Sueños" campaign with a ceremony honoring 412 volunteer knitters. The event recognized the distribution of 2,000 yarn balls that enabled the production of roughly 100 blankets, of which 27 have already been donated to local shelters, schools and vulnerable families. Among the honorees was centenarian knitter Genoveva González, and mayor Carlos Enciso presented diplomas alongside social‑development officials.

Three days later, on 21 June 2026, the NIDO Parque Belgrano crochet workshop in Buenos Aires, Argentina, concluded its semester with a public runway show of the participants’ creations. Women aged 40 to 70 displayed handmade mantas, scarves, bags and other garments, promoted as a way to foster solidarity and open new entrepreneurial opportunities. Administrator Irma Ovejero highlighted the program’s role in building a supportive community and cited the involvement of the Asociación Todos Juntos and local school representatives.
