Volunteers lead reforestation efforts in Peru and Costa Rica
In Arequipa, Peru, a group of volunteers is working to reforest the Andean slopes of Chiguata and Yura with queñua trees. This collaborative effort involving local communities, students from Catholic universities, and state entities like Sernanp and Serfor aims to protect the Quilca-Chili basin. The project focuses on enhancing the soil's ability to recharge aquifers and springs during the rainy season.
In Costa Rica, WeWork Costa Rica organized a reforestation initiative at the La Lima Business Park, where volunteers planted over 200 trees of various species, including lorito, vainillo, uruca, and dama. The activity was documented using SELVA, a technological platform created by a Costa Rican developer that allows for real-time verification and traceability of corporate social and environmental actions. The project included contributions from several private companies and the Costa Rican Institute of Electricity (ICE).
