Volvo Cars and NVIDIA expand partnership for autonomous driving
Volvo Cars is deepening its collaboration with NVIDIA to develop advanced autonomous driving technologies for its next generation of vehicles. Building on a partnership that began in 2017, the two companies aim to create systems capable of navigating complex environments, including highways, urban streets, and parking scenarios.
The technology will utilize NVIDIA’s Hyperion sensor and computing architecture, the Halos operating system, and the Alpamayo driving software stack. These tools are designed to allow vehicles to interpret their surroundings and make driving decisions using artificial intelligence. Volvo intends to integrate its long-standing safety engineering expertise with NVIDIA’s AI-powered computing capabilities.
The goal is a gradual rollout of automation levels, moving toward “eyes-off” and “mind-off” driving, where motorists can eventually reduce active engagement with the road. The new technology is expected to debut in an upcoming Volvo model as part of the company’s largest-ever product expansion.
