Volvo Cars introduces Safety Coach driving assistance app

Volvo Cars has introduced Safety Coach, an optional application designed to enhance road safety by monitoring and providing real-time feedback on driving habits. Developed in collaboration with Cambridge Mobile Telematics, the software uses artificial intelligence to evaluate driving styles, specifically monitoring braking intensity, acceleration levels, and cornering trajectories.

According to Mikael Ljung Aust, a driving behavior expert at Volvo, the tool aims to increase predictability on the road, which can help prevent accidents often caused by sudden or unexpected maneuvers. The app provides personalized advice through the vehicle’s infotainment system and a mobile application.

The initial commercial rollout is focused on Sweden and Norway for models produced from the 2020 model year onwards using the Android platform. In these markets, drivers may receive discounts on insurance through Volvia by sharing their driving data. Volvo plans to expand the availability of Safety Coach to the United States and other European markets in the future.
