Volvo Cars partners with Accenture and Google Cloud on Horizon platform
Accenture and Google Cloud have launched Horizon, an open-source development platform designed to accelerate the building, testing, and deployment of Android Automotive Operating System (AAOS) software. Volvo Cars has been named the lead industry partner for the initiative and is migrating its global AAOS development environment to the platform.
Horizon integrates cloud-native development tools, virtual environments, and AI-assisted workflows. The platform aims to address industry-wide challenges such as inconsistent toolchains and high scaling costs for software-defined vehicles. According to the companies, the platform can deliver software testing up to nine times faster and potentially reduce the cost of developing infotainment features by up to 40%.
By utilizing Horizon, Volvo Cars intends to reduce build times from hours to minutes and utilize virtual Android Automotive environments for large-scale testing. The partnership will also assist in refining the platform's generative AI capabilities as Accenture and Google Cloud extend the tool to other automotive and industrial organizations.
