Volvo launches Safety Coach app to monitor driving behavior

Volvo Cars has introduced a new optional application called ‘Safety Coach’ designed to monitor and evaluate driver behavior using artificial intelligence and telematics. The system analyzes real-time driving data, including braking, acceleration, cornering, and speed, to generate a dynamic safety score. This information is accessible via the vehicle’s infotainment screen and a dedicated smartphone app.

Developed in collaboration with Cambridge Mobile Telematics, the tool aims to encourage safer driving habits. In Sweden and Norway, where the service is currently being rolled out, drivers who opt to share their data may receive discounts on car insurance through Volvia, an insurer linked to Volvo. This usage-based insurance model shifts away from traditional demographic-based pricing to reward individual cautious driving.

Volvo plans to expand the availability of the Safety Coach app to the United States and other European markets in the near future. The application is compatible with Volvo models released from 2020 onwards.
