Volvo, MAN, and BYD unveil new electric heavy-duty trucks

Major heavy-duty vehicle manufacturers are unveiling new electric truck technologies at the IAA Transportation event in Hannover, focusing on extended range and high-speed charging to compete with diesel models.

Volvo Trucks has been named ‘International Truck of the Year 2027’ for its entire electric range, including the FH, FM, FMX, and FH Aero Electric models. The FH Aero Electric features an e-axle that increases battery capacity to 725 kWh, enabling a range of up to 700 km. Volvo is also introducing heavy-duty combinations capable of handling up to 80 tonnes.

MAN has introduced the eTGX, which offers a range of up to 720 km in specific configurations with a 644 kWh battery capacity. The model features aerodynamic optimizations and improved regenerative braking to enhance efficiency.

BYD is entering the European market with the ETT 44, an electric tractor unit capable of up to 1,000 hp. It utilizes a 651 kWh Blade Battery, promising a 600 km range and the ability to charge from 20% to 80% in 20 minutes using a Megawatt Charging System (MCS).
