VoorleesExpress Velsen volunteer supports children with literacy

In Velsen, volunteer Joke Steur shares her experience with the VoorleesExpress, a national project designed to support parents and children aged 2 to 8 who face language or reading difficulties. For five years, Steur has visited families weekly to engage in reading and educational games.

The program focuses on creating a connection between the volunteer and the child, often matching them carefully to ensure success. Steur noted the effectiveness of using visual aids, such as picture books, to engage children who may initially be hesitant to communicate.
