Vooruit leadership severs ties with Antwerp deputy Jinnih Beels
The national leadership of the Vooruit party has severed ties with Antwerp provincial deputy Jinnih Beels, who serves as the deputy for Agriculture. Party chairman Conner Rousseau informed Beels of the decision, requesting that she surrender her mandate. The move follows ongoing friction regarding agricultural policy, nitrogen regulations, and Beels’s public disagreements with party colleagues.
Beels has rejected the call to step down, describing the situation as a “sad turn for politics” and a result of personal political settling. She maintains that she has worked constructively with the Vooruit faction and has no intention of resigning her position.
While the national leadership has distanced itself from Beels, the local Vooruit fraction in the Antwerp provincial council has expressed a more moderate stance. Local leaders noted they have had no difficulty working with her cabinet and indicated a willingness to maintain the governing coalition even if Beels continues to serve as an independent.
