Évora GNR unit awarded Gold Medal for public security services
The Évora Territorial Command of the Republican National Guard (GNR) has been awarded the Gold Medal of Distinct Public Security Services. The decoration, determined by the Minister of Internal Administration, recognizes nearly two decades of professionalism and dedication to maintaining safety across the district.
The unit oversees more than 7,000 square kilometers, covering 14 municipalities. The award highlights the command's ability to adapt to evolving crime patterns, including organized, transnational, and technological crime. Notable successes cited include the 2020 dismantling of a group involved in MB WAY-related cyber fraud and the 2022 'Operation Imperfecthus,' which resulted in 21 arrests and the seizure of over 90,000 doses of hashish.
Additionally, the command's cooperation with the Spanish Guardia Civil has been noted as essential for addressing cross-border criminality.
