Évora municipal swimming pools reopen after water safety clearance

The municipal swimming pools in Évora, Portugal, reopened to the public on Tuesday, 28 July, after fresh water‑quality analyses confirmed that safety and quality conditions were met. The facilities had been closed on 17 July following routine tests that detected traces of the bacterium Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The city council lifted the preventive shutdown, noting that corrective cleaning measures and additional sampling had been completed.

The Câmara Municipal de Évora said it will maintain rigorous water monitoring and reminded users to follow hygiene rules, including mandatory shower use before entering the pools. Pseudomonas aeruginosa is common in moist environments and can cause infections ranging from mild ear irritation to serious pneumonia.
