Évora school to use temporary modules during building rehabilitation

The Escola Básica do Chafariz d’El Rei in Évora will begin the 2026/2027 school year using 16 prefabricated monobloc modules. These temporary structures are being installed in the parking lot near Hospital do Patrocínio while the main school building undergoes rehabilitation.

The modules will house first-cycle classrooms and will be connected by a circulation corridor. A passage has been opened in the wall separating the parking lot from the school grounds to allow direct access. The measure was coordinated with the Agrupamento de Escolas Gabriel Pereira and parent associations to maintain student routines and proximity to the original site.

The Évora Municipality aims to complete the rehabilitation works and have students return to the permanent building before the end of the 2026/2027 school year, pending safety confirmations. Local authorities stated they are mobilizing all available means to accelerate the intervention.
