Vorarlberg emergency services honored with KSÖ Safety Awards

The Vorarlberg Mountain Rescue and the Vorarlberg State Police Directorate have received awards at the KSÖ Safety Awards for their recent achievements.

Vorarlberg Mountain Rescue earned third place in the ‘Rescue Operation of the Year’ category for their efforts on June 23, 2025. During a severe storm, 19 passengers and a dog became stranded in the Karren cable car after both cables were knocked out of their guides. The rescue operation lasted seven hours under tense conditions, complicated by fallen trees and unpredictable weather.

The Vorarlberg State Police Directorate received second place in the ‘Exceptional Achievements’ category for its ‘Superrecognizer’ pilot project. The initiative utilizes eleven individuals with an extraordinary talent for facial recognition to assist in image searches, target searches, observations, and large-scale events.
