Vorarlberg heating subsidies and energy-saving measures

In Vorarlberg, Austria, low-income households can apply for heating cost subsidies of up to 250 euros for the 2026/27 heating period. Applications can be submitted to local municipalities between October 19, 2026, and February 12, 2027. Eligibility is determined by monthly household income, which varies based on the number of residents. For example, the limit for a single person is 1,480 euros, while for five people, it is 3,325 euros. Those exceeding these limits by up to 200 euros may still receive a reduced subsidy. Individuals receiving social assistance will automatically receive 180 euros without needing to apply.

To manage rising energy costs, practical insulation methods are also being highlighted. Using bubble wrap behind radiators and insulating film on windows can help retain heat and reduce energy consumption. Applying insulating film to window frames creates an additional air layer that acts as thermal insulation, which is particularly effective for older single or double-glazed windows.
