Vorarlberg ski resorts prepare for winter amid rising ticket prices

Ski resort operators in Vorarlberg, Austria, are preparing for the upcoming winter season following their annual industry conference in Damüls. Despite a dry summer, officials confirmed that water supplies for artificial snow production are secure, as storage ponds were replenished by spring snowmelt.

However, skiers can expect higher costs, with lift ticket prices set to increase by approximately 4.2 percent. The industry is increasingly relying on technical snowmaking to combat the challenges of climate change, particularly in lower elevations where natural snowfall is less reliable.

Experts noted that the industry must focus on making winter sports predictable through technology to ensure seasons can begin reliably in November or December. While water availability is not a concern, the success of snowmaking remains dependent on sufficiently low temperatures.
