Vorderkaiserfeldenhütte reopens after renovation

The Vorderkaiserfeldenhütte, a 130-year-old mountain hut in the Zahmer Kaiser range in Tyrol, has reopened to hikers following an eighteen-month closure for renovations. The project, managed by the German Alpine Club (DAV) Oberland Section, cost approximately 5.2 million euros.

The renovation focused on modernizing living and common areas while preserving the historic building structure. Key upgrades include a replacement building for the main house, a new self-catering house with a winter room, and the installation of a photovoltaic system. The hut also now utilizes a wood-chip system instead of electric heating and uses a cistern to collect rainwater.

Despite the upgrades, the total capacity remains at 114 beds. The hut is now under the management of new tenants Bernd Graf and Isabell Schwaninger.
