Vorizia farmer released to house arrest with electronic monitoring

A 43-year-old farmer from Vorizia has been released from prison and placed under strict house arrest with electronic monitoring. This marks the first local application of the electronic monitoring “bracelet” in the region.

The decision was made by the Rethymno investigating magistrate following allegations involving the Amari area, including trespassing, threats, and extortion reported by local landowners. While the magistrate did not dispute the seriousness of the charges or the potential risk of recidivism, the change in custody was prompted by new medical evidence.

During his three-month detention at Korydallos Prison, the individual, a father of nine, suffered a sudden fainting episode on July 10, requiring emergency transport to Attikon Hospital. Medical documents indicate an urgent need for cardiac surgery, leading the court to prioritize his access to specialized medical treatment as a reason for the transition from pretrial detention to house arrest.
