Voter list revisions in India affect high-profile celebrities and politicians
During the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists in India, several high-profile individuals have reportedly been issued notices or had their names removed from electoral rolls.
In Telangana, prominent figures from the film, sports, and business sectors have reportedly received notices from the Election Commission in Hyderabad. Reported names include film director S. S. Rajamouli, actor Mahesh Babu, and athletes such as Pullela Gopichand, Saina Nehwal, VVS Laxman, and Mithali Raj. Business leaders including Murali Krishna Prasad of Divis and Upaana Konidela of Apollo are also mentioned. These notices are part of a verification process for names, addresses, and other details. Official confirmation from authorities regarding these specific individuals is still pending.
In Punjab, Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha has reportedly had his name removed from the state's voter list during the SIR process. Rather than re-registering in Punjab, Chadha has reportedly become a voter in Delhi, where he previously served as an MLA. While political disputes have arisen regarding the removal, the process is being conducted by the Election Commission.
