Voter turnout in Berlin and demographic shifts in Brazil

In Berlin, regional elections have seen a voter turnout of 27.9% by midday, marking a 4.5 percentage point increase compared to the 2023 elections. The highest participation was recorded in Treptow-Koppenick at 30.5%, while Mitte saw the lowest at 24.8%. Polls suggest a tight race between The Left, led by Elif Eralp, and the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), led by Stefan Evers. The Alternative for Germany (AfD) is projected to potentially double its 2023 results, though it is not expected to form a government.

In Brazil, discussions regarding the 2026 elections highlight shifting demographics among voters. The number of eligible voters aged 70 or older is expected to rise to over 17.2 million, up from 14.8 million in 2022. Conversely, the number of voters aged 16 and 17 has decreased by nearly 500,000.
