Voters in Acre use river boats to reach polling stations

In the state of Acre, Brazil, voters relied on traditional river boats, known as catraias, to reach polling stations during the second round of elections on October 25. In Rio Branco, residents used the Porto da Catraia to cross the Acre River, navigating longer routes to exercise their right to vote.

In Sena Madureira, reports emerged of voters questioning the availability of river crossings used to reach urban voting areas following the collapse of the Frei Paolino bridge. While local residents raised concerns regarding the service, the Department of Roads, Hydrographic Infrastructure, and Airports (Deracre) issued a statement denying any interruption, asserting that the crossings were functioning normally.

The Mayor of Sena Madureira, Gerlen Diniz, stated that the boats belong to the state government, while local reports noted that the river crossing remains a vital link for communities separated by the Iaco River.
