Votikom implements secure ID verification for Göttingen elections

The newly developed app Votikom is implementing the Governikus AusweisIDent solution to identify candidates for the upcoming local elections in Göttingen, Germany. The app aims to provide a centralized platform where voters can learn about candidates through a user-friendly interface that utilizes swipe concepts similar to dating apps, specifically targeting a younger demographic.

To prevent data misuse and ensure that only authorized individuals can edit their profiles, candidates use the online ID function of their official identity documents. This process involves using the federal AusweisApp to authenticate via an NFC-enabled smartphone or card reader using a PIN. The implementation was facilitated by the OpenID Connect standard, allowing for a quick and secure verification process.
