Brazil regional governments expand social welfare and protection services

Various Brazilian municipalities and state agencies are implementing social welfare and protection initiatives. In Piauí, reports from the Labor Public Ministry show a 54% increase in harassment complaints, prompting the Federal University of Delta do Parnaíba to host prevention workshops on moral and sexual harassment.

Efforts to combat domestic violence are also active, with Cuiabá conducting awareness lectures for public servants and Fernandópolis hosting educational circles regarding the Maria da Penha Law. Fernandópolis also plans to implement a specialized Women’s Care Reference Center (CRAM).

Regarding disability services, Cabo Frio has launched a listening program to guide autistic individuals and people with disabilities toward specialized medical and psychological care. In Salvador, the municipal government is distributing equipment, such as computers and air conditioners, to several non-profit institutions, including Apae and the Institute of Blindness of Bahia, to strengthen specialized socio-assistance.

Additionally, Votuporanga hosted a training session for over 100 social assistance professionals from 49 municipalities to improve communication and service delivery within the Unified Social Assistance System (SUAS).
