Voula motorcycle accident leads to multi-national organ donation

Organ procurement surgeries are underway following the death of a 39-year-old motorcyclist who was declared brain dead after a serious traffic accident in Voula, Greece. The donor's family made the decision to donate his organs to save lives, a choice described by the victim's father as, ‘Let my child give life to other people.’

Coordinated by the Greek Organ Procurement Organization, the medical operation involves multiple institutions. Doctors from Laiko Hospital are receiving the liver and kidneys, while surgeons from G. Gennimatas Hospital are collecting the corneas. Additionally, medical teams from Munich, Germany, are receiving the lungs.

The accident occurred on Poseidonos Avenue when a taxi driver attempted an illegal U-turn, colliding with the motorcycle. The taxi driver was arrested for dangerous driving and causing bodily harm through negligence. He has since been released under restrictive conditions, including monthly police reporting and the suspension of his driver's license. The driver claimed he was misled by his GPS and did not see the no-turn sign.
