Vouliagmeni beach dispute over sunbeds leads to fatal altercation

An 82-year-old man died following a physical altercation over sunbeds at a beach in Vouliagmeni, near Athens. The incident occurred on a Sunday morning when a dispute erupted between the elderly man and a 76-year-old man accompanied by a 21-year-old woman.

Witnesses report that the argument began when the 76-year-old and his companion attempted to use sunbeds that the 82-year-old claimed were reserved for his group. During the confrontation, the 82-year-old reportedly struck the 21-year-old woman, leading to a physical fight between the two men. The 82-year-old collapsed during the struggle and suffered a cardiac arrest. Despite resuscitation efforts by beach lifeguards and medical staff, he passed away at Asklepieion Hospital in Voula.

The Athens Prosecutor's Office has initiated criminal proceedings. The 76-year-old man faces charges of fatal bodily harm, while the 21-year-old woman has been charged with complicity in fatal bodily harm, threats, and insults. The 76-year-old denies hitting the victim, claiming instead that the 82-year-old struck him in the jaw during the dispute.
